Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Intercontinental Exchange Inc.'s
European Climate Exchange in London overtook NYSE Euronext's
BlueNext bourse for the first time this week as the biggest
handler of prompt carbon allowances.
The ECX handled 2.1 million metric tons of prompt European
Union carbon dioxide allowances this week as of 5:30 p.m. in
London. That compares with 825,000 tons on BlueNext in Paris,
the lowest weekly total since Oct. 10 2008.
Futures for December, the benchmark, rose 5 cents to 14.48
euros ($18.50) a metric ton on ECX, which has the biggest share
of the futures market. Volume for that contract was 6.7 million
tons today.
