UN Carbon Offsets Jump to Six-Week High on Concerns About Supply

By Ewa Krukowska and Mathew Carr
Aug. 19 (Bloomberg) -- United Nations carbon offsets
surged to the highest price in more than six weeks on concerns
that the regulator of the world's second-biggest carbon market
may curb the supply of credits.
UN Certified Emission Reduction credits for December 2010
gained as much as 3.3 percent to 12.97 euros ($16.62) a metric
ton, the highest intraday price since July 6. They were at 12.93
euros as of 8:20 a.m. in London.
Regulators of the UN Clean Development Mechanism said
yesterday they won't immediately issue tradable emissions
credits to the developer of a Chinese hydrofluorocarbon-23
project as they seek more information.
The CDM will probably question all projects seeking
emission credits for reducing HFC-23, the International
Emissions Trading Association said yesterday.
