CO2 Permit Accounting of 'Increasing Importance,' Sikorski Says

By Catherine Airlie
Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Reporting of emissions permits will
become increasingly important as costs rise, Trevor Sikorski, a
London-based analyst at Barclays Capital, said in a weekly
commodities research report published today.
"If shareholders are aware of the value of carbon assets
and liabilities and the value at risk on those assets,
companies, particularly the industrials, will need to manage
carbon exposure with a greater degree of rigor," Sikorski said
in the report. This could make companies more active in the
market, he said.
There have been no rules on "uniform financial
accounting" of CO2 permits under the European Union's emissions
trading program to date, he said.
