(Updates with bilateral talks in third paragraph.)

Oct. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's government will study the
feasibility of using overseas projects including nuclear power
plants to offset the country's carbon emissions, the trade
ministry said in a statement.
The government will provide 260 million yen ($3.2 million)
to study 15 projects including a possible nuclear power plant in
Vietnam, the statement said.
Japan has started talks with Vietnam, Indonesia, India and
the Philippines as it seeks bilateral agreements to help it earn
emissions reduction credits.
Japan, the world's fifth-biggest carbon dioxide emitter in
2008, wants to use offsetting to help it meet a target to cut
greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent from 1990 levels by 2020.
