Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Morocco said 50 companies including
Italy's Enel SpA and Mitsubishi Corp. of Japan expressed
interest in developing the first stage of the African country's
biggest solar-energy project.
The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy said the companies
formed 18 bidding groups competing to set up the 125-megawatt
solar-thermal project. A short list of bidders will be disclosed
by Nov. 17, the agency known as Masen said today in a statement.
Masen was created in January to guide construction of 2,000
megawatts of solar capacity.
The plant, which will use reflected sunlight to generate
steam for power turbines, will be part of the 500-megawatt solar
project at Ouarzazate in central Morocco, the first of five
complexes to be developed in the country by 2020 under the plan.
Bidders were among the parties that initially expressed interest
for the entire complex when it was tendered in March 2010.
Abengoa SA and Actividades de Construccion y Servicios SA
of Spain, Germany's Solar Millennium AG and Siemens AG and
Alstom SA of France are among companies in the 50-strong bidder
list. Others include International Power Plc of the U.K., JGC
Corp. of Japan and South Korea's Daewoo International Corp.
