Sept. 14 (Bloomberg) -- BlueNext, the Paris-based carbon
exchange, sold Emission Reduction Units for 13.15 euros ($17.09)
a metric ton, a discount to spot Certified Emission Reduction
credits.
The exchange sold 250,000 tons of the so-called ERU
offsets, according to an e-mailed statement today. The offsets
are created under the Joint Implementation program of the 1997
Kyoto Protocol. Spot CERs, created under the Clean Development
Mechanism of the protocol, were at 13.63 euros as of 5:08 p.m.
Paris time. The seller of the ERUs wishes to remain anonymous,
BlueNext said.
The Joint Implementation mechanism is the second-biggest
greenhouse-gas offsetting program overseen by the United
Nations. It has about 7 million tons of issued credits, compared
with 429 million tons issued under the Clean Development
Mechanism, according to Bloomberg data.
