Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- The premium on European Union carbon
permits for 2011 over allowances for delivery next month traded
little changed near a record low.
The spread between 2011 and 2010 EU permits, traded as a
separate contract, was steady at 28 euro cents (38 U.S. cents) a
metric ton on London's ICE Futures Europe exchange at 5 p.m.
local time.
The premium was at 27 cents earlier today, matching the
lowest spread since the contract started trading in 2007. It
later widened as much as 2 cents to 30 euro cents. Some 2.8
million tons traded, the largest amount since Oct. 28.
EU carbon permits for December this year rose 0.4 percent
to 14.94 euros a ton on ICE after investors signaled interested
in twice as many CO2 allowances as the Dutch government offered
today in an auction.
The Netherlands sold 2 million metric tons of European
Union carbon permits for 14.83 euros a ton, the Utrecht-based
Climex exchange said today in an e-mailed statement. There were
a total of 50 bids for 4.1 million tons, it said.
