Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Trading Emissions Plc, an investment
company focused on clean energy and emissions credits, said it
received several "expressions of interest" in its private
equity investments
The company's adviser, Liberum Capital, is contacting
potential bidders, Trading Emissions said today in a statement.
The London-based company also said it received interest in its
carbon investments and would consider an offer for the entire
business.
"Trading Emissions seeks to either sell the company in its
entirety or sell the assets or carbon business separately,
depending on what is best for shareholders," Simon Shaw, adviser
to the company, said today by e-mail. The target date is the end
of 2012, "and this may be accelerated," he said.
At the end of June 2010, the carbon unit was valued at
150.4 million pounds ($233.5 million), Shaw said. About 150
million pounds has been invested in private equity. He declined
to disclose the value of a potential sale or what type of buyer
the company is talking to.
Trading Emissions's largest private equity holding is its
40 million pound investment in Bionasa Combustivel Natural SA, a
Brazilian bio-diesel company, Shaw said. The second-biggest is
in TEP Solar Holdings, which received about 30 million pounds.
The next-largest investments are in biogas and biofuels in
Thailand and Africa, he said.
At the end of May 2010, Trading Emissions private equity
holdings comprised 14 investments spanning wind, solar,
biofuels, biomass and hydro companies. This includes a 19
million-pound investment in Asia Biogas Company Ltd., which now
has 39 renewable energy projects operating in the region
Trading Emissions bought Deutsche Bank's interest last year
in a 320-megawatt wind farm to be built near the north coast of
Poland. It will be one of the largest wind projects in Poland
when it starts operating, Trading Emissions said in its results
for the year ended June 30, 2010.
