EU Says Emissions Trading Registry Attack Is Theft, Not Sabotage

By James Neuger
Jan. 20 (Bloomberg) -- The European Union said the registry
attack on the Emissions Trading System was theft, not sabotage,
and may have been a concerted action.
"For us at this stage it's a theft, not a sabotage,"
Maria Kokkonen, climate spokeswoman at the European Commission,
told reporters in Brussels. "It could even be possible that it
is a concerted action because the recent incidents happened
within the last five days. The member states are now
investigating."
Lifting the closure "depends now on the action and speed
of reaction of the member states," Kokkonen said. "The sooner
they increase their security measures, the sooner we can reopen
the systems."
