Dec. 7 (Bloomberg) -- The Department of Energy and seven
other agencies began an initiative to promote exports of
renewable power and energy-efficient products and services,
starting with a pledge for more than $300-million in financing
from the Overseas Private Investment Corp.
The DOE and OPIC were joined by the departments of
Commerce, State and Agriculture, as well as the Export-Import
Bank of the U.S., the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and the
Office of the United States Trade Representative, in the
initiative, the DOE said in a statement today.
The initiative will promote exports over five years. The
OPIC financing could attract more than $1 billion in private
equity investment, the Washington-based agency said in a
separate statement today.
OPIC will provide financing for up to a third of the cost
of certain projects, William Pearce, an OPIC director, said in
an interview.
