China to Cut 6 Bln Tons of Carbon Emissions by 2020, Zheng Says

Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- China, the world's largest power
producer, will reduce as much as 6 billion tons of carbon
emissions by 2020 to meet its energy intensity target, Zheng
Fangneng, director of the energy and transport division of the
high-tech department in China's Ministry of Science and
Technology, said today in a conference in Beijing.
The country aims to cut carbon emissions per unit of gross
domestic product by 40 to 45 percent by 2020.
China allocated 3 billion yuan solar subisidies in 2010,
Zheng said. This represents an increase of 50 percent from the
financial assistance for the industry last year, according to
Zheng.
